  • Gran Turismo 5 Prologue update

    GTP-citroenGT

Digital Polyphony have released an update for GT5 Prologue. Contained within are 3 new cars including the sexy looking GT by Citroen Concept shown above. The two other new cars are the Ferrari California and the Lotus Evora.

Gameplay enhancements include a penalty system - specifically, during Time Trial events, speed penalties have been removed, and instead incurring such a penalty now invalidates the lap time for that particular lap. Race events are also being updated, with tweaked difficulty levels and increased earnings for winning a top spot. Additionally, improved responsiveness when using the wireless controller, and improved sound volume balance for sound effects and music for a better racing experience. Drift Trial races have also been changed to feature a rolling start.

  • Burnout Trophy patch live

    burnout

Weighing in at a modest 35 Mb the latest update - v1.5 – is now available to download. Simply fire up Burnout Paradise and you will be prompted to grab the update.

This patch brings with it trophy support, details of which in the full article.

UPDATE: We had thought the trophies would be retroactive. This however is NOT the case. This from Criterion:

Burnout Paradise saves are locked to your profile. We had hoped to use this to retroactively award trophies, but we discovered during testing that this is not possible. You will therefore require a fresh game-save to receive trophies in Burnout Paradise. If you’re familiar with PS3 trophies already, you’ll recognise that this works in the same way as all other games that have added trophy support post-release.

…which is a bit of a kick in the teeth if you are a Burnout veteran with hundreds of race miles under your belt. Is it worth starting all over again just for the trophies? I`m not so sure

This Thursday – 25th September - sees the arrival of Burnout Paradise as a downloadable title. Buying the game gets you all the original Burnout Paradise disk content.  If you missed it, that’s all 5 neighborhoods in the Paradise City open world filled with hundreds of Road Rage, Stunt Run, Marked Man and Burning Route events.  Every street in the city features a Road Rules record time and Showtime score to beat.  Take it online, and you’ll witness the seamless arrival of up to 7 friends.  Collaborate with them to beat 350 Freeburn Challenges – simple challenges taking you all over Paradise City.

burnoutbike1Once downloaded you will be prompted to download all the extra content including last week`s inclusion of motorcycles.Criterion also state that a patch delivering PS3 Trophy Support will be released imminently and included for free.

EU pricing has so far not been announced. In  the US it will be $29.99 so a guess would put it around the £15 mark here. Great value for money in our opinion.

    Socom Beta update 1.3

    socom2

SlantSix are readying a patch for the Socom: US Navy SEALs Confrontation beta, due to arrive today.  According to their post here the update will address the following issues:

    • Abnormally long network synchronization issues when some users in a game have a poor network connection. This issue causes 4-7 minute (or longer) load times when late joining a game.
    • Fixed an issue where respawn game late joiners were sometimes stuck in spectator mode and could not respawn into the game.
    • Removed the latency detection network test which was causing some users with poor network connections to receive the network latency icon (red X).
    • Fixed an issue where clients with different client versions (patches) could play together in a default medley game.
    • Fixed an issue where if the session master leaves the game, late joiners could not “green up” and late join into the game.
    • Fixed corrupt characters in the European and Japanese EULAs and Server News.
    • Fixed many join game issues and made joining a game quicker. We are still optimizing this.
    • Fixed an issue where if you add and then remove someone from your block list they were still unable to send you a message.
    • Improved accuracy while moving (based on user feedback). Partial implementation. More improvements to come.
    • Reduced the encumbrance penalty (based on user feedback).
    • Changed the default round time for Medley games from 8 minutes to 6 minutes (based on user feedback).

They acknowledge the following issues, but stress they will not be addressed this time round:

    • Some late joiners have really bad framerate (5fps) and crash if they exit the game from the start menu. This happens at approximately 1/50 frequency.
    • Some late joiners will get stuck on the round complete screen. This is timing dependent.
    • Some users will crash in-game. This happens at approximately 1/100 frequency (games).
    • Some late joiners get stuck on the loading screen, loading into a game. This happens at approximately 1/100 frequency.
    • Green or corrupted particles appear for RPG, C4 and AT4 explosions. This happens at approximately 1/4 frequency (users).
    • Further tuning and tweaking based on user feedback.
