The current beta for LBP is classed as a closed beta and is due to end 12th October. However, according to an article here at PSX Extreme Sony plan to open up the beta for the week prior to release so that everyone can experience it`s wonders and generate even more hype – as though it`s needed. With strong rumours that Sony are set to adopt Sackboy as PlayStation`s official mascot it`s obvious how much is resting on the success of Media Molecule`s creation

Strong rumors suggest that there will be 60,000 beta invites sent out next week for Media Molecule`s LittleBigPlanet – 20,000 for European, American and Japanese regions.

C&VG reckon the next firmware update for the PS3 (2.50) will include a feature that enables you to take a screen shot of in game action. While this will be a welcome addition, it`s to be hoped it grabs the screen in full HD. It`s still just a rumour though, so don`t hold your breath

Vivendi Games has refused to comment on the future of the Ghostbusters game in the wake of the Activision Blizzard merger.

Last night Activision revealed that a number of studios will be “realigned” or sold off in the merger with Vivendi. The games that weren’t mentioned at all in the update included Ghostbusters and World in Conflict.

This morning a spokesperson for the company could only say things are “as is the release” in regards to the title. I.e. Unknown.
We’ve yet to reach anyone at Activision, though we’d expect to same ‘no comment’ to be honest.

“We have conducted a thorough review of Vivendi Games’ brand portfolio and are retaining those franchises and titles that are a strong fit with our long-term product strategy,” said Mike Griffith, CEO of Activision Publishing. “We are reviewing our options regarding those titles that we will not be publishing.”

Whilst the company will continue to support Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age, Prototype, Spyro and an unannounced game, the fate of the others is unclear.

Games not mentioned include Ghostbusters and World in Conflict, plus 50 Cent and Chronicles of Riddick.

UPDATE: An American Sierra PR has told blog Destructoid (regarding Ghostbusters) “it is not canceled and will not be canceled.”

So we know we will be able to create our own content and levels for the forthcoming LittleBigPlanet, but from a recent statement by David Reeves, we`ll be able to charge real hard cash for our creations.

According to a report on CVG Sony customer support reckon there will be a `fixed` firmware update (2.41?) coming mid-week.
